Sometimes a separate pre-amplifier and power amplifier are not practical in a system. Whatever the reason may be we at Professional Audio recommend Rotel's line of intergrated amplifiers. Rotel is a 50 year old, family owned organization dedicated to the design and manufacture of the finest in affordable, high performance home theatre and high fidelity components. Based in England, Rotel uses their Balanced Design Concept for every product they produce. Balanced Design Concept revolves around three major areas: parts selection, circuit topology, and critical evaluation. These aspects influence final sound quality significantly and illustrate Balanced Design's holistic approach to product development. From finding the best parts to how they work and sound together each Rotel intergrated combines quality and affordability.
The amplifier has always been the heart of a hi-fi system, but for the new audio landscape, amplifiers need ‘brains’. The brain of the RA-12 is the Wolfson WM8740 24 bit/192kHz DAC, most often found in high-end audio products, and it ensures that the RA-12 extracts the full potential from its digital and Apple® authorised USB inputs. Traditional audio is not forgotten however so the RA-12 also provides four analogue line-level inputs and a phono input. The RA-12 can be controlled from its front panel buttons, via a remote handset, or via an RT-12 and the Rotel Remote app for iPhone and iPad. The RA-12 is however not just about versatility, it is a very high performance 60 Watts per channel amplifier that puts music at the top of its priorities.
The RC-1570 stereo preamplifier is extremely flexible. Four digital inputs (2 co-ax and 2 optical), plus the rear PC-USB handle digital sources up to 24/192 resolution. The 4 inputs are designed for sources such as TV set-top boxes, flat panel TVs or Blu-ray players for stunning playback. The PC-USB input makes use of audio playback software such as iTunes or Windows Media Player to replay music from your computer digital library. A Bluetooth dongle is provided to be used with the front USB input. A premium Wolfson stereo D/A converter handles critical conversion from digital data to analog. Analog inputs include balanced XLR connectors (perfect for connecting the RCD-1570 via its XLR outputs) in addition to four pair of conventional RCA inputs. A moving magnet phono stage rounds out the source capability. XLR and single ended outputs are provided, as are two 12-volt triggers to control on/off operation of an amplifier and/or other components and RS-232 on a standard DB-9 connector. In short, the RC-1570 is a tremendous value and the perfect upgrade for owners of older analog-only preamplifiers.
The RA-1570 combines proven analog design with sophisticated digital circuits to bring all of your sources to life with amazing fidelity. The integrated amplifier features a front panel USB input, making it easy to connect a wide variety of music storage devices including iPods®, iPhones®, and iPads® directly, or via the supplied Bluetooth dongle. Rotel has not forgotten analog fans of vinyl either by including a high performance moving magnet phono input. Meanwhile a highly regulated power supply with custom-designed toroidal transformer provides high current capability to a Class AB output stage. The amplifier design uses multiple discrete output devices to ensure precise reproduction of all signals with virtually any loudspeaker.
The RMB-1585, Rotel’s new flagship theater amplifier, provides both the massive power and sonic sophistication required by the finest home theater systems. With five channels, each capable of producing 200 continuous watts each into 8 ohm loads (a full kilowatt of output power!), the RMB-1585 masters any A/V system regardless of speaker load or room size.
But it isn’t just pure output power that distinguishes the RMB-1585. It’s the ability to reproduce both the dynamics of a Hollywood blockbuster and the musical nuances of acoustic instruments that sets it apart. Where does this balance come from? It’s a direct result of Rotel’s celebrated Balanced Design Concept in which circuit topology and parts selection meld in the pursuit of sonic excellence.
Larger listening environments require prodigious amounts of power to deliver room filling sound. That’s exactly what you get with Rotel’s 5 x 250 watt power amplifier. It is important to note that this specification is provided with “all channels driven at 8 ohms” unlike some other manufacturers who stretch the ratings by listing them at 6 ohms or with only one or two channels being driven. Rotel’s RMB-1575 is a true high current audiophile design and can double its output to 5 x 500 watts at 4 ohms with all channels driven. Pure muscle alone, however, does not make a superb amplifier. The RMB-1575 excels at extracting all of the smallest audio details from both music and movie soundtracks alike. Best of all, even with its high power capability the RMB-1575 runs relatively cool, extending the components lifespan thanks to its innovative Class D design.
This high power two-channel amplifier can be used with the RMB-1575 to expand your theater system into a 7.1 system, or it can stand alone as a reference amplifier for a two-channel hi fi system. Either way, it has the same performance characteristics, sound quality, and custom installation options as the five-channel RMB-1575.
Rotel provides multiple amplifier solutions for all of your theater systems. The RB-1562 is a 2 x 100 watt per channel (8 ohms, all channels driven) power amplifier that can be combined with the RMB-1565 amplifier for a total 7 x 100 watts per channel home theater amplification. It is also a great two-channel hi fi amplifier and can drive a wide range of small to large speakers with ease. Its smart Class D design never gets hot and allows it to be put into small cabinet spaces without over-heating itself or other accompanying components.
